Sharply struck and with excellent details on the war galley
Lot 2040
Mark Antony, 44-30 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.76 g, 7 h), military mint moving with Mark Antony (Patrae?), 32-31. ANT•AVG / III•VIR•R•P•C Galley to right, with scepter tied with fillet on prow. Rev. LEG VII Aquila between two signa. Babelon (Antonia) 113. Crawford 544/20. RBW 1842. Sydenham 1224. A wonderful piece, sharply struck and with excellent details on the war galley. The obverse struck a tiny bit off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

Nothing is known of this obscure legion, which presumably must have been raised by Antony and disbanded by Octavian after Actium, with these coins forming the only testimony of its existence. It should not be confused with Legio VII Claudia, one of Julius Caesar's original units, which went on to serve Octavian.
